Legal Requirements

Australian law applies to all marriages conducted in Australia.   The specific legal requirements are set out in the Commonwealth Marriage Act should you wish to read this document.

Some of the key legal requirements are that a Notice of Intended Marriage (NIM) must be filled in, lodged with an authorized Marriage Celebrant and endorsed by the Celebrant at least one month and one day prior to the day of the intended marriage.

I would strongly recommend that you note this requirement and reflect that it is the starting point for the marriage.

There are other requirements relating to your identification such as a bona fide birth certificate and documentation relating to a previous marriage if you are in such a situation.

An essential part of my role as a Marriage Celebrant is to manage the legal requirements for you and to ensure that the necessary legal requirements are fully met.

I strongly recommend   you call me to discuss these matters further if you are looking to use my services as a Marriage Celebrant.

For Those Couples Not Born in Australia

If you were born in Australia this section does not apply to you but where you were born overseas you may care to call me to discuss your situation for marrying in Australia as essentially the Marriage Act applies to you as well as those persons born in Australia.
